April 1, 2021
Pinch, punch, first of the month (got both Hubby and Ruth this month). We were treated to April Fool’s with snow today, which was actually kinda pretty as it was falling, although thankfully it didn’t stick. I took a morning walk along the large lake at Menden Ponds; was a nice, if not chilly, walk alone through the woods, very much feeling like winter. Every time I come to this park there’s a new log/tree/wooden thing in this one area. The latest were two very long logs propped up onto a tall upside down tree trunk, so that they slanted, the top ends about 6.5 feet off the ground. In days of yore I would have skipped up one of those logs, balance-beam style, to the upside down tree trunk. But yesterday my sister and I had a conversation about her not feeling comfortable trail walking by herself for a few reasons, one being “what if I fell and hurt myself?” This was very much at the forefront of my mind when I reached the halfway point along the log and realized it was getting high off the ground. And I was by myself. So I stopped and took a picture instead.
Team Mom was active today, two daughters meeting with the facility managers at the new place where Mom will live; one of us (me) spending multiple hours on her old computer trying to get info we thought was lost and also fiddling with her contact list in preparation for changing her email address; and two people sorting through Mom’s clothes to decide which items will go with her to her room and which will stay at my sister’s house until needed for the appropriate season. Mamacita is definitely the queen in residence, with five adults attending to her needs this week to ensure a smooth transition. Every old person should be so lucky. And every daughter should be so lucky to lie in bed with her mom in the morning and run through the list of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Love the family table picture!
