I left the house at 4:50 AM to drive to Rochester, NY, where Mamacita now lives near my sister. Arrived at my sister’s before 11:30, so made great timing. The first hour and half of the drive was dark and raining, so hard in a couple of places that I slowed to 40 MPH on the highway and could barely see the road in front. Outside of Thurmont I saw a man stumbling along the road’s shoulder, in the dark, in the rain, no reflective clothing. He was visible in my headlights just when I was passing him. Feeling a little bad for not calling the police to do a welfare check.
Thankfully, the rain stopped somewhere in Maryland, before the Pennsylvania border, and daylight improved the driving. Went for a walk around my sister’s neighborhood to stretch the legs, ate lunch, and then headed for Mamacita’s place to deliver her recliner chair, which I brought from home in the back of my car. Originally it was hers, and I “inherited” it when we moved her. Graciously, our upstairs tenant agreed to let it go (I found him another chair), because Mama needs a recliner to elevate her feet.
She seems to be getting used to her digs and feeling more comfortable, now that covid restrictions aren’t as dire, more activities are taking place, and she’s getting out more, compliments of my sister. I got to see the piles of material that she and sis have been sorting through to start a sewing circle, and hear her plunk out a hymn on one of the many pianos she sometimes plays. My other sister had made a piano bench cushion, which I also brought with me, so Mama got to test drive it.
We brought her back to sis’s house, where I showed her two months’ worth of pictures on my computer—pictures that have illustrated my daily blogs. She loves seeing Hubby’s garden and still-life-with-vegetable photos, depicting our harvest.
After an early supper, which included chard from sis’s garden, I drove Mamacita back to the home. She was exhausted. Back at the ranch, the neighbors had a pool party (girls only), but only a handful of gals could make it. Spent the evening paddling in a delightful pool, drinking wine, and having good conversation. Afterward we gathered around a gas fire pit until my bed time. I’m going to sleep well tonight.
