It was nice to wake up in my own bed this morning, next to a gently sleeping Hubby. We spent a few hours in the basement this morning getting ready for moving things to the pod. He dismantled some rolling racks while I puttered around boxing things I want to keep and recycle a stack of boxes I don’t want to keep. A friend came over for a share of our garden bounty, going home with bags of cabbage leaves, kale, cucumbers, jalapeno peppers, and cherry tomatoes. My sister came by for a bag of cucumbers, which she’ll make a salad with to serve those in need at her church. We love seeing the expressions on people’s faces when they walk into our back yard and see how much the veg has grown since the last time they were here for their farm share. Unfortunately, the white flies have discovered our kale; fortunately, they’re harmless if not a little annoying when clouds of them fly in your face while you harvest the leaves. Another lotus flowered bloomed today; this one was pink. They are supposed to last for a couple of days before withering, but when I went out to get a picture of it later in the day, it had disappeared!
Hubby went to a local bar to watch England play Italy in the European Championship for Soccer. He’s not usually a soccer fan—preferring rugby—but since England was in the finals, he suddenly got religion for soccer. Unfortunately, England lost by one penalty kick in double overtime!
Had our monthly family Zoom call this evening with Mamacita. We caught her up on the memorial services for her sister’s husband and her granddaughter’s wedding last week. My brother showed us some pictures of his daughter’s wedding. His four girls are the loveliest young ladies, and we’re so proud of them all.
I’m just giving thanks for family today and feeling grateful for family—and friends.
