Today took us to Mason Neck State Park, along Belmont Bay, part of the Potomac River. We\u2019re big fans of hiking and do most of ours in the winter for two reasons: it\u2019s much cooler and the leafless trees allow for better views through the forest (and the possibility of hitchhiking ticks is reduced). We always come across interesting trees: multi-trunked, massive diameters, fascinating innards, odd growth formations, and amazing breaks where the wind toppled them. I have hundreds of pictures of trees from all over the world. Someday I\u2019ll put together a picture book.<\/p>\n

Today I\u2019m grateful for trees and the open spaces along the forest habitat\u2014especially when the sun is shining in midwinter.<\/p>\n
