It\u2019s National Grammar Day, which I love, being a writer and self-style grammar geek (some would say grammar police who takes her job just a tad too seriously). Among some of my T-shirts are three, all from my mother\u2014the former English teacher:<\/p>\n
I am the grammarian about whom your mother warned you<\/em> (Note to those who learned otherwise in school: it\u2019s perfectly acceptable to end a sentence with a proposition.)<\/p>\n Silently correcting your grammar<\/em> (Some would argue the silent part.)<\/p>\n Let\u2019s eat Grandma! When I taught various writing classes for professionals, I prided myself in my ability to help class participants understand the difference between the active and passive voice. It\u2019s harder to grasp for many people than it sounds. The students were often people who barely remembered the difference between a noun and verb, let alone an object and the definition of a participle.<\/p>\n Another thing I love is the poetry of the season\u2019s first daffodil.
