Hubby and I took a short trip into DC today to a small area on the west end. He was in DC last week for work and noticed crocuses and daffodils in bloom in this fancy pants neighborhood, so he wanted to see them again. We\u2019ve walked in this particular neighborhood before; incredibly beautiful homes, including the Korean ambassador\u2019s house, which I\u2019d love to see the inside of (no picture, sorry). Many of the homes look like they were built in the last 30 or 40 years\u2014and more recently\u2014but this disused police phone box post on a street corner indicates this neighborhood dates back to at least the 1930s. Of course, in DC, that\u2019s not surprising. It\u2019s big business around here to knock down old houses and build new ones.<\/p>\n

We also went to our first estate sale of the season. We\u2019ve been avoiding them because of Covid, but felt okay going today. It\u2019s been a tradition of ours for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon on the days we don\u2019t go for long bike rides. On Sundays everything is usually half price. We troll the ones in the ritzy neighborhoods and we\u2019ve scored some good stuff, including great artwork and furniture. The best sales are divorce ones, and the fun ones are in massive, gaudy homes that I\u2019d never want to live in but are fun to snoop around. Today, we walked away with a nicely framed Andrew Wyeth print ($7.50) and Vizio TV ($40), which I\u2019m going to use in my yoga room in the basement when it\u2019s built.<\/p>\n
