Today is the first day of Daylight Savings Time, which\u2014firstly is an oxymoron, emphasis on \u201cmoron\u201d\u2014is my least favorite day of the year. Readers of my blog will note a post<\/a> I wrote a few years ago on the topic (and will probably also note that I complain about this every year). I\u2019m definitely one of those people whose sleep and mood suffers from this ridiculously outdated practice of shifting the time. But I do hear there\u2019s a bill making its way through Congress that would stop this nonsense. Apparently it has a lot of support. Unfortunately, the proposal is to keep the DST and not move the clocks back an hour to ST in November. As a dyed-in-the-wool morning person, I want the daylight in the morning, not the evening, plus it makes sense for kids going to school of a winter morning. We morning people, though, appear to be a minority.<\/p>\n

When we did finally roll out of bed this morning (8 o\u2019clock, which is really sleeping in for us), we headed over to Maryland\u2019s Brookside Gardens (all pictures below taken from there). I could spend every day of the rest of my life walking around gardens, forests, and parks and be quite happy. Our household is hungering for spring, and Hubby\u2019s been working hard in the garden. Because he covers thing in hoop houses over winter, we have lettuce, pak choy, cabbage, kale, chard, and a few other things. One week this year I\u2019m going to eat nothing but what comes from our garden. Stay tuned for that body-cleansing adventure.<\/p>\n

Today is National Pi Day (to celebrate the mathematical constant that matches today\u2019s date: 3.14). To celebrate, I made an actual pie with leftover pumpkin pie batter that\u2019s been in the freezer since Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
