Gusty, gusty, gusty today, moving the hot air out and bringing the cold air in\u201420 degrees cooler today than the past few. But the air smelled fresh. I\u2019m watching the neighbor\u2019s tree from one our skylights and hoping it\u2019s as flexible at it looks. On a short neighborhood walk, I saw this \u201ctumbleweed\u201d in the street made of catkins from oak trees. Don\u2019t let the picture fool you, this sausage-shaped hairball was as long as my torso and nearly as big around. (Interestingly, it\u2019s National Arbor Day and National Hairball Awareness Day.)<\/p>\n

Had a brief chat with Mom this morning. I\u2019ve decided to stop asking her how she is (I already know the answer). Instead I ask how she slept, what she had for breakfast, and what the weather is like. Then we talk about what I\u2019m up to; she likes to hear what others are doing. My sister had a long visit with her in person and later told me Mom has the beginning stages of Alzheimer\u2019s coupled with vascular dementia. Mom has now been informed but how much she\u2019ll remember from day to day remains to be seen. She\u2019s repeated her statement about wanting to write a book about how to grow old. We all think that would be a great idea and would love to help her if she\u2019s serious. I\u2019m going to start asking her what her thoughts are on that and taking notes.<\/p>\n

For a Friday night treat, I made Hubby his favorite: strawberry-rhubarb crumble. I\u2019ve been trying to wean myself off sugar but splurged on a small dish myself. I can cheat on Fridays, right?<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is pinch\u2013punch day!<\/p>\n
