A warm day for late October, nearly 80 degrees, but then a massive storm rushed in around 5 PM, dumping hurricane-worthy rain and all but making me want to bite my nails about flooding in the basement\u2014the new basement. If there are still leaks behind the walls and under the floor I won\u2019t know about it until the water has done damage. The outside stairwell started to form a little wading pool, ankle deep, because leaves were clogging the drain. I ventured out the door to unclog it and put the atrium drain in place, so the leaves won\u2019t completely block it. It relieved the backup, while soaking me through. Back upstairs, we heard a loud bang, light a bomb going off, and a flash. We thought it was a transformer blowing up in the storm, but our lights didn’t even flicker–unlike my heart that was still racing 5 minutes afterward. Never did figure out what is was, and no emergency services vehicles pulled up.<\/p>\n
Our tenant is occupying the bedroom in the basement now, and here for his biweekly stay.\u00a0 I spent most of the day putting the finishing touches on his room, and the bathroom. Didn\u2019t even touch the heap in the back room, where the contents of the pod in the driveway were unloaded. Tomorrow\u2014I\u2019m off work all week. The guys started demolishing our bathroom today. So 6 more weeks of construction. Is it Christmas yet?<\/p>\n
In mid-afternoon, I received another pre-birthday gift from Hubby: a hot stone massage. It hit the spot after all the moving over the weekend. (The first present was a private tour of the wildlife rescue center a couple weekends ago, plus a nicely turned maple wood bowl by a local artist and lunch at one of our favorite little country stores.)<\/p>\n
It\u2019s National Greasy Foods Day, so we celebrated with a supper of hot Italian lamb sausage, french fries, and saut\u00e9ed mushrooms, onions, and Hubby\u2019s garden peppers. I splurged by adding a bottle of stout. Early to bed tonight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
